PARTIR POUR RACONTER

Michèle Ouimet

For 25 years, Michèle Ouimet travelled the planet. Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Syria, Mali, Egypt. Here she shares the gripping story of her career as an international correspondent, showing readers what goes on behind the scenes. Ouimet recounts the camaraderie that forms in dangerous places, the tightness in the chest when thinking of the lover and child left behind. She talks about the challenges of being a woman in a man's world – not only that of the mullahs she interviewed, but of the men who run the media. She tells us what has driven her to keep on going all these years in spite of all obstacles: the urgency to go out in the field, the desire to report, the urge to uncover the stories hidden behind simple factual accounts.
