OWL AND THE JAPANESE CIRCUS
Debut novel, the first in a New Adult urban fantasy series. Fans of Kim Harrison, Jim Butcher, Laurell K. Hamilton, Diana Rowland, and Carrie Vaughn will love Owl !
Most people go through grad school and get a degree. Alix Hiboux got thrown out for stumbling into the supernatural. Ex-archaeology grad student turned international antiquities thief, Alix better known now as Owl has one rule. No supernatural jobs. Ever. Until she crosses paths with Mr. Kurosawa, a red dragon who owns and runs the Japanese Circus Casino in Las Vegas. He enlists Owl to retrieve an artifact stolen three thousand years ago, and makes her an offer she can't refuse: he'll get rid of a pack of vampires that want her dead. A dragon is about the only entity on the planet that can deliver on Owl's vampire problem, and let's face it, dragons are known to eat the odd thief. Owl retraces the steps of Mr. Kurosawa's ancient thief from Japan to Bali with the help of her best friend Nadya and an attractive mercenary. As it turns out, finding the scroll is the least of her worries. When she figures out that one of Mr. Kurosawa's trusted advisors is orchestrating a plan to use a weapon powerful enough to wipe out a city, things go to hell in a hand basket fast and Owl has to pick sides. Owl is a modern day Indiana Jane' who reluctantly navigates the hidden supernatural world. Even when she gets roped into working for the bad guys, she does her best to keep her conscience and the lives of her friends intact. Drawing on her archaeology background and her professional scientific knowledge, Kristi has created an action-packed world that will appeal to readers of Charlaine Harris' Sookie Stackhouse novels, Kim Harrison's NYT bestselling Hollows series, and fans of the hit tv show Buffy the Vampire Slayer. KRISTI CHARISH holds a MSc and BSc from Simon Fraser University and a PhD from the University of British Columbia and has a background in Archaeology, all of which she draws upon for details in the novel. She has worked as a scientific advisor on projects such as the fantasy and sci-fi writer Diana Rowland's series White Trash Zombie, and as an expert in community outreach programs. She has been a writing instructor in the UBC Science and Creative Literacy Symposia, and a repeat panelist at the VCON: Vancouver's Convention of Science Fiction and Fantasy. Kristi is also a social media coordinator for the non-profit Society for Canadian Women in Science and Technology (SCWIST). She is an information translation specialist, who has experience adapting complex science material for both scientific and entertainment media.
