OUR SECRETS WERE SAFE

Virginia Trench

A Novel

For readers of Jessica Knoll, and those craving an adult-version of Pretty Little Liars, OUR SECRETS WERE SAFE follows best friends from college who start receiving text messages from a college classmate who supposedly died after a horrific car accident and now is threatening to expose their deadly secrets 10 years later.
Dead people can't send emails.
Brooke is newly engaged to the perfect man and has landed a chic new teaching job. Caroline created an AI software that helps to combat sexism in the hiring process and is on the precipice of finding her next big investor. And Jenna is a successful doctor with the cutest son and cookie-cutter, easy-going husband. These three college best friends are finally getting everything they've dreamed of - which is amazing, considering the tragedy they faced in college.

Sofia, the fourth component to their once elite clique, died tragically their junior year in a freak car accident. Brooke and Caroline miraculously got out unscathed, and Jenna was thankfully not in the car. That day has weighed heavy on their minds ever since, but the three have decided moving on is the safest option. That is, until Caroline starts getting comments on her professional Instagram from a "Sofia." And Brooke gets a threatening email also from "Sofia." And then Jenna winds up dead...

This is a heart-pounding, nonstop ride that will have you on your toes until the very end!

An engrossing, complex thriller about female friends haunted by past secrets and lies that threaten them now, Our Secrets Were Safe is full of revenge, murder, and lots of twists. Fans of Ruth Ware and Laurie Elizabeth Flynn will love Virginia Trench's debut.

[A] sure-footed debut . . . Trench makes the most of her I Know What You Did Last Summerstyle setup, maintaining nerve-jangling suspense throughout and skillfully shading her traumatized leads. The result will satisfy fans of Lisa Unger.

A captivating debut thriller! The shifting viewpoints and timelines filled in small pieces of the puzzle throughout the story with a fierce ending for our characters. I had to hide out on the back deck for uninterrupted reading.

A dark, intricate, and surprising debut, perfect for fans of Ashley Winstead and Megan Miranda.

Virginia Trench's debut is a sharp, propulsive thriller that sucks you in from page one. Packed with unforgettable characters and chilling twists, Our Secrets Were Safe is an engrossing read you won't want to put down.

Trench's prose is strong, lively, and compelling.

Every single character has a secret so dark, or perhaps a revenge wish so visceral, that they would kill for it. The twists and turns and reveals are skillfully paced, and . . . the novel has a lot of salient commentary on relationshipsparticularly when it comes to toxic men. The women might be dissolute in various ways, but at least their personalities are not restricted to their flaws. . . . At the end of it all, Trench is calling the men to accountand to punishment. A confident and wickedly sinuous debut.

Devious and twisty in all the right ways, Virginia Trench's debut is everything you could wish for in a psychological suspense thriller. Twisted characters you can't trust? Check. Multiple points of view? Double check. Dual timeline? Triple check. An ending you won't see coming? Quadruple check. Whatever you do, don't miss it!
