ONE HUNDRED AND ONE NIGHTS
Set against the backdrop of war-torn Iraq, former Iraqi expatriate Abu Saheeh endeavors to rebuild his life and free himself from his past.
Abu Saheeh is alone, starting his new life in an unfamiliar city when he meets Layla, a whimsical fourteen year-old girl who enchants him with her love of American pop culture. As he becomes distracted by her stories and settles into the town's rhythm, two sudden developments, involving a powerful merchant and his hot-headed young assistant, reawaken his memories, thrusting him back into his painful past. Even Layla may not be able to save him from careening out of control and endangering all of their lives.
ONE HUNDRED AND ONE NIGHTS is an unforgettable story of love, betrayal, and the struggle for salvation. As a former liaison for the US Army in Safwan, Iraq, Benjamin Buchholz worked closely with the Iraqi people, and his experience has allowed him to vividly render the personal side of the war. His nonfiction book Private Soldiers was published by the Wosconsin Historical Society Press in 2007. He currently lives with his family in Oman.
