ONE BULLET AWAY
The Making of a Marine Officer
ONE BULLET AWAY is a deeply thoughtful account of what it's like to fight on today's front lines.
An ex-Marine captain shares his story of fighting in a recon battalion in both Afghanistan and Iraq, beginning with his brutal training on Quantico Island and following his progress through various training sessions and ultimately, conflict in the deadliest conflicts since the Vietnam War.
Flick reveals the crushing pressure on young leaders in combat: split decisions with national consequences or horrible immediate repercussions - where hesitation is not an option. While not shrinking from blunt truths of war, ONE BULLET AWAY is ultimately an inspiring account of mastering the art of war in our time.
Nathaniel Fick is now a Fellow at the Center for a New American Security in Washington, D.C. , a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the International Institute of Strategic Studies, and serves as a Director of the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation and the Rockefeller Center for Public Policy at Dartmouth College. He holds a B.A. from Dartmouth, an MBA from the Harvard Business School, and an MPA in international security policy from Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government.
