ON ISLAM AND MUSLIMS
About Man, reform, war and Occident
The Islam issue obsesses Occident. Religion, secularism, civic rights, immigration, integration, multiculturalism, extremism: on these topics, everything contributes to worsen its image. And what about these young people who madly take arms, to do jihad they think, to join these violent groups who betray the most essential teachings of Islam.
In this chaos, we need to find back primary principles. Which conception of Man do we find in Islamic
purpose? How can we understand and personify it in Occidental context? What about the necessary women liberation, the Islamic thought on peace and war? How can we fight Islamophobia?
These questions are asked there, intended for women and men, Muslims or not, who want to understand, discuss and live together in justice and peace.
Tariq Ramadan is Professor of Contemporary Islamic Studies in Oxford University and Director of Research Center of Islamic Legislation and Ethics. Presses du Châtelet are his only French publisher.
