Dr. Ray demystifies CRT and also seeks to explain the centrality of race in American history and politics, and how the often mischaracterized intellectual movement became a political necessity. Drawing on several of our thinking giants such as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Ida B. Wells, and W.E.B. Du Bois, Ray clearly trace the foundations of Critical Race Theory in Black intellectual traditions of emancipation and the civil rights movement, Ray explores the many facets to help paint a clear picture.

After earning his bachelor of arts in urban studies at Vassar, Victor Ray earned his PhD from Duke University in 2014. His work has been published in a number of peer-reviewed journals including the American Sociological Review and the Annals of the American Academy of Political and Social Science. Dr. Ray is a Nonresident Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution and his research has been funded by the Ford Foundation. As an active public scholar, he has written social and critical commentary for outlets such as The Washington Post, Newsweek, Harvard Business Review, and Boston Review.
