NESSUNA PAROLA DICE DI NOI
A young woman is on the fine line between love and freedom. This literary work of fiction takes a look into relationships and femininity. Three generations of women: the difficulty of becoming a mother; the tenderness of being a daughter. And a friendship that becomes a great, impossible love between two free spirits who recognise each other at first sight.
For Ada, a young copywriter, words are a game: the weapons with which intelligence defies the laws of responsibility. The words that tell her just that, however, Ada knows to disguise in silence.
For her mother, words serve to smooth out the anomalies of life: like the fact that in the house on the lake, she has always taken care of Claudia, the little girl Ada had when she was too young.
For Alessio, however, gestures and images count more than words. He and Ada are an exceptional creative couple; one completes the other in a happy understanding destined to take them as far away as America. Putting many kilometers between them and Claudia is, Ada thinks, the best way to regain the right to being young, the right we lose when a child is born. And then, together with Alessio, she would go to the ends of the earth, because his gaze makes her feel new; he gives her back to herself, even though there is no word to describe the emotion that unites them. Despite the fact that Ada has not told him about Claudia. Despite the fact that he is homosexual.
The precise writing focuses on the perimeters within which we end up forcing our lives. It challenges the words, their sharp edge but also their illuminating simplicity. Gaia Manzini recounts two great and difficult loves - between a mother and a daughter, between two friends on the threshold of desire - and the adventurous journey of those who must be born twice to know themselves.
Gaia Manzini lives and works in Milan; she has written Nudo di famiglia (Fandango 2009, longlisted for Premio Chiara), La scomparsa di Lauren Armstrong (Fandango 2012, Premio Strega selection, Diario di una mamma in pappa (Laterza 2014) Ultima la luce (Mondadori 2017). She is a contributor at 'il Foglio' and 'LEspresso'.
