NESSUNA PAROLA DICE DI NOI

Gaia Manzini

A young woman is on the fine line between love and freedom. This literary work of fiction takes a look into relationships and femininity. Three generations of women: the difficulty of becoming a mother; the tenderness of being a daughter. And a friendship that becomes a great, impossible love between two free spirits who recognise each other at first sight.
For Ada, a young copywriter, words are a game: the weapons with which intelligence defies the laws of responsibility. The words that tell her just that, however, Ada knows to disguise in silence. For her mother, words serve to smooth out the anomalies of life: like the fact that in the house on the lake, she has always taken care of Claudia, the little girl Ada had when she was too young. For Alessio, however, gestures and images count more than words. He and Ada are an exceptional creative couple; one completes the other in a happy understanding destined to take them as far away as America. Putting many kilometers between them and Claudia is, Ada thinks, the best way to regain the right to being young, the right we lose when a child is born. And then, together with Alessio, she would go to the ends of the earth, because his gaze makes her feel new; he gives her back to herself, even though there is no word to describe the emotion that unites them. Despite the fact that Ada has not told him about Claudia. Despite the fact that he is homosexual. The precise writing focuses on the perimeters within which we end up forcing our lives. It challenges the words, their sharp edge but also their illuminating simplicity. Gaia Manzini recounts two great and difficult loves - between a mother and a daughter, between two friends on the threshold of desire - and the adventurous journey of those who must be born twice to know themselves. Gaia Manzini lives and works in Milan; she has written Nudo di famiglia (Fandango 2009, longlisted for Premio Chiara), La scomparsa di Lauren Armstrong (Fandango 2012, Premio Strega selection, Diario di una mamma in pappa (Laterza 2014) Ultima la luce (Mondadori 2017). She is a contributor at 'il Foglio' and 'LEspresso'.

Words build universes and Gaia Manzini's challenge is to rewrite emotions. With a prose of extreme precision, she hides within the novel a meditation on the life that 'grows in our arms' as we try our best to be our true selves.

In a complex and profound novel that can be read in one breath and is built in one long flashback, with a clear and at times cutting style, Gaia Manzini explores the maternal world with extraordinary courage, from different angles and in all its aspects, in spite of those who say maternity can only be wonderful.

In Nessuna parola dice di noi, the latest and wonderful novel by Gaia Manzini, she tackles the theme of motherhood and love. Manzini also manages to find the right words to endure the difficulty we all experience when we are not accepted for who we are.

A wonderful box full of wind, light and those unspeakable feelings that we all sometimes experience.

Manzini builds her writing around tiny, extremely precise refinements

With Ginzurbg's precise and unadorned prose, Manzini tells the story of a creative 26-year-old who begins a fine career in advertising.

Gaia Manzini has written a novel of precipices and intimacy with oneself, full, with delicacy, of this violent impact of becoming a woman: a trauma of the body that can take away words and put them elsewhere. This is a story of bodies and words and the struggle to hold them together. This is a rebellion against precise boundaries that are too easy to manipulate.
