Nano Electronics – How to Master New Tech Challenges Due to the increasing density of micro-electronic integrated circuits today structure sizes of a few nanometers have been reached. As a consequence, effects are observed that could be neglected only a few technology generations ago. These effects limit further miniaturization of the classic transistor as the most important switching instrument. On the other hand, these quantum-mechanical effects can also be used to realize transistor structures that are based on innovative principles.

This textbook fist provides an introduction to the fundamentals of semi-conductor physics and pays particular attention to the effects applied in nanostructure components. It presents classic components such as diode, bipolar transistor and Single Gate MOSFET. Next, the text details special nanostructure MOSFETs and their electric properties are explained in the context of the fundamentals described earlier in the narrative.

 

The book offers calculation examples and a questionnaire for each chapter to deepen and question the acquired knowledge. Also, the online simulation platform nanohub.org, accessible after free registration, can be consulted. It established itself as an assemblage of the most diverse simulators based on different levels of abstractions.
