MYSTERY OF THE MASKED MEDALIST
From two-time Olympic bronze medalists and social media stars Maia and Alex Shibutani comes a fun-filled, fast-paced middle-grade mystery set at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
When Andy and Mika Kudo's journalist parents reveal that their next big assignment will be covering the Olympics in Tokyo, the siblings can't wait to tag along. They plan to stuff their faces with delicious Japanese food, watch every event they can, and most importantly, compete in a wildly popular game called OlympiFan. The prize is a coveted spot as a game tester with the app's developer, and the competition is stiff.
Once they touch down in Japan, Andy and Mika immediately throw themselves into the game, racing against the other teams to hunt down virtual medals hidden throughout the city. While Andy's only focus is on climbing up the OlympiFan leaderboard, Mika has a secret goal of her own: enter and win a social media photography contest. But soon, it becomes clear that one of the players is sabotaging the Kudos and using Mika's secret to blackmail her. Now, they must work with their friends to discover who is determined to ruin their chance at winning the gold.
Siblings Maia and Alex Shibutani are two-time Olympic bronze medalists, three-time world medalists, Four Continents Champions, and two-time U.S. National Champions. At the 2018 Winter Olympics, they became the first ice dancers of Asian descent to medal at the Olympics and are only the second sibling duo in the history of the sport to share an ice dancing medal. The Shibutanis are known for using their platform on social media to bring new audiences to their sport, as well as sharing their interests in fashion, food, travel, and entertainment. They were named as finalists for the 2019 Shorty Awards, celebrating the Best in Sports in Social Media. Maia and Alex were also named to the prestigious Gold House A100 List in 2019, which honors the most impactful Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders across a wide range of professions.
