I wrote Modern Potluck to give people updated, foolproof, crowd-pleasing recipes that will hold up on the buffet table and are also just a little bit impressive. I want to inspire those cooks who tend to always bring the same thing, as well as cooks who are always looking for something new. And to make the book itself a kind of potluck, I asked some of my very favorite home cooks to contribute their best party recipes. You’ll find them scattered throughout, and their collective advice and dishes are invaluable.
Like most people who write cookbooks, my greatest wish is to bring people together around food in a way that’s as easy and fun as possible. The secret to doing this is to share the work with your guests. And, as it turns out, guests love it that way, too.
