Sir Anthony Hopkins is playing the part of Freddy Heineken in a huge motion picture about the Heineken kidnapping, to be released in January 2015. In November 1983, Freddy Heineken, the director of the world's most famous brewery, was kidnapped together with his driver in front of the Heineken corporate building in Amsterdam. The kidnappers ask for a ransom of close to EUR 16 million, the highest ever in Dutch history. After three weeks of negotiations, cat-and-mouse rallies through the country and the ransom drop-off, the police find Heineken and Doderer, alive, in a shed on an industrial site in Amsterdam. Two kidnappers are arrested that same night, one turns himself in a few weeks later, and the other two are caught in Paris a few months later.

Gert van Beek was 31 years old when he became the leading Police Chief in the investigation of the Heineken kidnapping. In this book, he tells the inside story of how the police managed to free Freddy Heineken and his driver.
