MAKEUP TO BREAKUP
My Life in and out of Kiss
In MAKEUP TO BREAKUP drummer Peter "The Catman" Criss tells the inside story of one of the most successful bands of all time, along with his own incredible story of sex, drugs and rock 'n roll.
Criss documents the long, strange journey of a Brooklyn boy who wanted nothing more than to keep the beat and, in the process, become a star. He got that wish, winding up in and out and then in (and again out of) one of the world's most popular bands. He amassed millions but burned through it all. He crisscrossed the country in station wagons, then lavish private jets, and then, after leaving Kiss the first time, a tour bus, where he sat in the back, crying his heart out after the dissolution of his second marriage. He played loft parties and colleges on the way up, then massive stadiums, before he wound up gigging in backwoods bars, trying to sing his own songs in front of fifty people who either ignored or heckled him. Criss has seen and done it all, and realizes how small the step is between the limousine and the gutter. He's now finally found a measure of peace, and his creative juices still flow. There's no end to the desire to pound the skins, and he's finding his way back to his roots. Larry Sloman has also coauthored memoirs by Howard Stern, Anthony Kiedis, and David Blaine.
