LOVE IS BOTH WAVE AND PARTICLE
Literary, smart, challenging and utterly fresh, LOVE IS BOTH WAVE AND PARTICLE explores how dangerous it can be to know oneself.
Levon Grady and Samantha Vash are rising seniors at The Clock School in Ithaca, NY, a small charter school whose two requirements for admission are academic excellence and psychiatric disability. Levon is the only son of a single mother who carefully guards the secret of his father’s identity. Sam, new to town, nearly died the previous year in a suicide attempt. Levon and Sam’s school counselor has paired them for a year-long project: They must meet twice a week, write their own histories, and collect as many versions of their stories as they can from the people in their lives. And show nobody but each other what they discover.
Literary, smart, challenging and utterly fresh, LOVE IS BOTH WAVE AND PARTICLE explores how dangerous it can be to know oneself. Told in a variety of changing, echoing voices—students, fellow former patients, doctors, teachers—it’s a mysterious, funny, moving and complex novel about growing up, identities, labels, sex, what we have to hold on to and what we must let go of.
