Né au Saguenay en 1943, Gérard Bouchard vit aujourd'hui à Chicoutimi où il enseigne au Département des sciences humaines de l'Université du Québec à Chicoutimi. Historien et sociologue de réputation internationale, il a enseigné dans plusieurs universités. Ses livres sont traduits dans de nombreuses langues et son oeuvre a été maintes fois récompensée. Entre août 2007 et janvier 2008, Gérard Bouchard a été coprésident, avec Charles Taylor, de la Commission de
consultation sur les pratiques d'accommodement reliées aux différences culturelles, mandatée par le gouvernement du Québec.
