This book is for C++ programmers who regularly perform unit tests but find it tricky to judge whether they test enough or too much.

Lean testing is all about covering all the necessary test cases while reducing the overall testing effort to a manageable level. This means discussing and designing appropriate test cases in advance and finding the middle ground between too little and too much testing.

Andreas Spillner uses real-world C++ code to illustrate how to design relevant test cases and, where necessary, explains how to use appropriate support tools. He also provides tips and guidelines on how to apply the test methods he discusses. In the process, he introduces and explains all current test methods covered by the ISO 29119 standard.

Ulrich Breymann has written several books on C++ programming and Andreas Spillner is a renowned software testing expert. Contemporary programming techniques no longer separate implementation and testing within a team, and this book builds an easy-to-understand bridge between the two disciplines while taking contemporary unit test methods (TDD, test first) into account.
