LA MUERTE DEL PAPA

Luis Miguel Rocha

On 29 September 1978 the world awakens to the disturbing news of Pope John Paul I sudden death. Only 33 days before had he been elected Supreme Pontiff. The immediate official reaction of the Vatican cuts short any speculation about the cause of such an unexpected turn of events. The Pope, it is said, suffered from delicate health and died of a heart attack.

28 years later in 2006 Sarah Monteiro, a journalist, returns from holidays to her home in London where she finds an envelope that contains two strange documents: a list of names and an encoded message.

From this moment onwards her life is under threat and she finds herself at the centre of a plot that involves leading church authorities with no scruples, corrupt politicians and mercenary killers ready to sell their soul to the highest bidder.

The moment of revelation and truth has come for many: What happened really during John Paul I's brief pontificate? What plans were abruptly cut short during that ominous night? And most of all: Who would benefit from the Pope's sudden disappearence?
