LA IMPOSTORA
The winner of the XIII Premio Málaga de Ensayo is a wonderful reflection on writing and translation.
La impostora is a literary essay about life through the fascinating craft of translation. The reader does not suspect the risks involved in a translated text. This book uncovers how our political, cultural and religious order is based on erroneous translations; how a profession considered almost domestic is stained by the blood of those who exercise it; how the prestige of writers who venture into this field can be questioned; how, despite their important work, women are also invisible here. Translation is a mirror in which the impostor syndrome takes on a deep existential meaning.
La impostora is a journey through history, from the Garden of Eden to the last war, an arrow shot into the heart of readers and, above all, writer Nuria Barrios' passionate love song to language and imagination.
Nuria Barrios (Madrid, 1962) has a PhD in Philosophy. She is a journalist, a translator and the author of over a dozen works, including poetry books, short-stories and novels. Her works have been translated to Dutch, Italian, Portuguese, Croatian and Esperanto.
As a columnist, she has been awarded by the Fundación Mastia. Among his works one should mention the books of poetry El hilo de agua (Algaida, 2004 Ateneo de Sevilla Poetry Award) and Nostalgia de Odiseo (Vandalia, 2012); the books of short stories Amores patológicos(Ediciones B, 1998), El zoo sentimental (Alfaguara, 2000) and Ocho centímetros (Páginas de Espuma, 2015); and the novel El alfabeto de los pájaros (Seix Barral, 2011 -shortlisted for the Troa Award to the Best Fiction Book with Values).
Her latest published work is the book of poetry La luz de la dinamo (Vandalia, 2017 VII Iberoamerican Prize of Poetry Hermanos Machado ).
Her latest work of fiction was the eagerly awaited novel Todo arde (Alfaguara, 2020) and now she comes back to non fiction with the essay on translation La impostora (Páginas de Espuma, 2022).
