KIDGLOVZ
A brilliant graphic fable about a boy who inherits a dangerous musical gift.
KidGlovz is a wunderkind, a prodigy, a musical genius. When he plays, sparks fly from his fingertips. He knows nothing about his past or where his music came from. He only knows his gift is so precious that his manager Dr Spin keeps him under lock and key and lets him out to solely perform.
There’s just one person who cares about KidGlovz and that’s his music teacher, Lovegrove. When a young thief called Shoestring breaks into Kid’s room and offers to steal him away, the young pianist thinks he’s found a friend and Lovegrove does too. But Shoestring is not all he seems. He leads Kid on a perilous journey which ends in a place of ice and darkness – the realm of Splitworld Sam. Splitworld Sam alone holds the secret to Kid’s extraordinary talent and the boy who lives for music finds he may have to die for it as well.
In the style of the international bestseller The Invention of Hugo Cabret, and with artwork reminiscent of Shaun Tan’s, this page-turning, brilliant, comic adventure will be a delight for all who read it. Film rights have already been acquired by Passion Pictures – the company that produced Shaun Tan’s Academy Award-winning short film, The Lost Thing.
Julie Hunt is the author of a number of award-winning books, including the CBC picture book winner, The Coat, illustrated by Ron Hunt, and Song for a Scarlet Runner which has won and been shortlisted for many awards. Dale Newman is an exhibiting artist and illustrator trained in printmaking. Dale also works with young people as an artist, musician and arts project manager.
