KID

Peter Carnavas

From the bestselling author of The Elephant and Leo and Ralph comes this modern-day classic about a young goat who discovers the meaning of family.
"The bumps on his head tingled, his ears stood straight and tall, and he realised something that would make his parents proud. He wasn't just a kid. He was a goat who had jumped a fence and could go anywhere at all."

Kid is a miniature goat who's been lovingly raised by a hen called Audrey, ever since his parents disappeared after chasing away a fox. Audrey tells Kid that Buck and Bess live on a nearby mountain because Farm Law says that once you leave the barnyard, you can never come back. Kid longs to be reunited with his parents. And one day, he realises that he is big enough to jump the fence.

Embellished with Peter's delightful hand-drawn illustrations, this junior adventure story is reminiscent of other children's classics that feature mostly animal casts, such as Charlotte's Web by E. B. White and The Sheep-Pig by Dick King-Smith.

Peter Carnavas writes and illustrates books for children. His books have been published widely across the world and have won many awards, including a Queensland Literary Award and the Patricia Wrightson Prize for Children's Literature at the NSW Premier's Literary Awards. Peter lives on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, with his wife, two daughters, a dog and a cat.

Like all of Peter's manuscripts, Kid is written in his spare yet evocative style. It is gentle, sensitive and full of heart.
