JULIETTE GRÉCO

Françoise Piazza

The muse of Saint-Germain-des-Prés
Jean-Paul Sartre said she had “millions of poems in her voice”. Born in 1927, Juliette Gréco remains Saint-Germain-des-Prés's muse. A singer, but also an actress (Orpheus, by Cocteau; Bonjour Tristesse, by Preminger ), she left her mark on the 50s and 60s with her deep and shady voice.

Born in Montpellier, in the south of France, Juliette is raised with her older sister Charlotte by their mother. As she joined the Resistance, Juliette was imprisoned in Fresnes before being released in 1942. After the war, she discovers Saint-Germain-des-Prés's intellectual life

Françoise Piazza unveils the grey zones of the French singer – and her lovers, including Boris Vian, Serge Gainsbourg, Michel Piccoli, and her last husband, the pianist Gérard Jouannest who accompanied her since 1968.

FRANÇOISE PIAZZA
