JOY IS MY JUSTICE
Reclaim What Is Yours
Integrative medicine physician Tanmeet Sethi is on a mission: to help all women, especially women of color like herself, live with Joy. An expert on trauma, Dr. Sethi has inspired thousands in her workshops, presentations, and TED talks to move away from pain and trauma and into hope and healing. Now in her book, JOY IS MY JUSTICE, Dr. Sethi offers her methods for rewiring mind and body to shift our biochemistry into Joy at the cellular level. Choosing Joy improves your mood and immune system and increases your energy. Choosing Joy is a life-changing act of personal, biological, and spiritual justice and an act of community service.
With uplifting stories from Tanmeet's and her patients' experiences, as well as potent guided meditations and self-inquiries, JOY IS MY JUSTICE guides us to discover or recover our personal power and purpose. Using Tanmeet's methods, a Puerto Rican social worker and single mother, shattered by losses after Hurricane Maria, regains her optimism and resilience; a chronic pain patient discovers how not to feel pain for the first time in decades; and a young Black social justice activist who developed early High Blood Pressure realizes that her body is responding to the High Black Pressure of living in a racist society, and creates a self-care regimen empowering herself and her community.
With the Center for Mind Body Medicine, a world leader in addressing psychological trauma, Dr. Sethi has worked in the heart of suffering, from Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School and the burning lands of Northern California to storm-devastated Puerto Rico and to Minneapolis with racial justice activists after George Floyd's murder. A Sikh-American daughter of immigrants, Dr. Sethi herself is no stranger to multi-generational trauma and racial discrimination. As a mother of three and a health equity activist who helps people on the margins to get care, she felt that she had finally found happiness and her purpose only to learn that her second child has an incurable terminal illness. Through this personal tragedy, Dr. Sethi blazed a path that anyone no matter their external circumstances -- can follow to live with grace, unconditional hope, and Joy.
As Bessel van der Kolk's seminal work has shown, 'the body-mind keeps the score.' Dr. Sethi's stories, exercises, and techniques allow our body-mind to change the score to choose Joy and justice for ourselves and future generations.
Tanmeet Sethi, MD, is an Integrative Medicine physician who has devoted her career to caring for the most marginalized patients and to teaching young resident physicians how to care for these vulnerable communities in the most humane, skillful way possible. An expert on trauma, Dr. Sethi is senior faculty for the Center for Mind-Body Medicine, and she has inspired thousands in her workshops, presentations, and TED talks on how to transform their pain and trauma into hope and healing. With her husband, Dr. Sethi is the mother of three children, one of whom has a degenerative and fatal diagnosis, which inspired her to seek methods for shifting both our thoughts and biochemistry into Joy at the cellular level. Dr. Sethi lectures nationally, has been interviewed on NPR and podcasts, and lives in the Seattle area.
