IT'S A BIT MORE COMPLICATED THAN THAT

Hannah Marshall

Zelle and Callum used to be best friends, but they haven't spoken in three years: not since the tragedy that wrenched them apart, and Zelle moved away.
But now Zelle is back, and their lives are about to get a whole lot more complicated...

Zelle is in denial about her parent's separation. Her alcohol use threatens to spiral out of control and she's deeply annoyed at having to leave her city life and friends especially since she no longer has friends back home.

When Callum first learns Zelle's returned, he throws up, and his future is thrown into jeopardy. He blows two chances at his dream journalistic career and a budding romance with new boy Finn.

Both Callum and Zelle realise they can't keep running from the past forever, and circumstances force them to examine their grief, their guilt, their friendship, and find a way through.

Told through Zelle and Callum's alternating points of view, It's a Bit More Complicated Than That deftly explores relatable, emotionally intense themes told through beautifully assured story-telling.
