Lily Buschwald is ready to live life on her own terms. After spending years in foster care, she decides to leave behind everything she knows once she turns 18 for the adventure of a lifetime. With barely a penny to her name, she travels to Cochabamba, Bolivia, with the dream of teaching English to a wealthy family in the hopes that the may eventually become a family of her own.
But to her horror, she quickly realizes that the program she's signed up for is a scam. Suddenly broke and with no one to turn to, she meets Enzo, a smart and handsome local with whom she quickly begins a whirlwind romance.
With nowhere else to turn, she decides to leave behind the Cochabama village for the thick jungles of Ayachero, the last outpost before the jungle in a string of river towns where Enzo was raised. Instead of a warm welcome, however, Lily is met with cold suspicion. The villagers distrust her, and she quickly finds that living off the land is a far cry from the romantic simplicity she imagined. And it is here where her troubles begin...
