IN THE SAME BOAT

Holly Green

With an unforgettable heroine and an immersive setting, Holly Green's captivating debut promises heart-stopping action and a swoony romance that will leave you cheering.
It's the eve of the Texas River Odyssey, and Sadie Scofield knows that finishing the 260 mile canoe race will change her life. After all, she's practically spent her whole life preparing. It may be three days of non-stop paddling where every turn of the river reveals new challenges - downed trees, dams, alligators - but these dangers are all worth it. Reaching the finish line with her brother, Tanner, is the only way for Sadie to redeem herself for last year, when one small mistake caused a wreck that ended her race with her father and his twenty-year streak of Odyssey finishes. He's never looked at her the same. Sadie has spent a year training, and she's ready for anything... except for Tanner ditching her at the last minute for a better team. Sadie grits her teeth and accepts her only other option, teaming up with Cully, her former best friend turned worst enemy. Everything about him irritates Sadie, from his stupid handsome face to the way he holds his paddle. It's even worse when she realizes he's ill-prepared for a race where a single wrong call can spell disaster. But as the miles pass and the pain builds, Sadie learns that the only way to make it down the river is to start working with Cully instead of against him. Last year's race was a catastrophe, but this year's race just might change her life in ways she never imagined. Holly Green lives in Austin and is a graduate of the Writing for Children and Young Adults program at the Vermont College of Fine Arts. She is a member of SCBWI and The Writers' League of Texas.

Debut author Green, an experienced rower, writes a thrill-a-minute adventure/romance... this engrossing novel covers two journeys: a physical trek that has the teens battling for survival, and Sadie's internal arc as she sorts out truths about the long-term war between her family and Cully's, and the incident that drove them apart.

This is one of the most satisfying books I've ever read, so touching, gripping, gorgeous. It is going to stay with me long after I've read it. I want to hold onto it, like the hand of a treasured friend.

An incredibly vivid, fast-paced adventure full of heart. Inspiring and unforgettable.

Totally engrossing. I've never read anything like it.

This debut presents a convincing, resilient voice in Sadie, who expresses her thoughts on everything from Ruth Bader Ginsburg to sexuality and environmentalism... an engaging story with an endearing narrator.

Both fast-paced and tender, In the Same Boat beautifully and satisfyingly explores the fierce and tender bonds of family and all the different journeys our hearts take us on.

This must-have adventure will have teens at the edge of their seats.
