IF YOU GET LOST
In the vein of Kate DiCamillo's The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, Nikki Loftin's picture book debut, IF YOU GET LOST, is a beautifully rendered reminder that new friends can be found in the unlikeliest places, if you only know where to look.
Getting lost is a universal experience, and can be a frightening one for the unprepared. In IF YOU GET LOST, a stuffed rabbit goes on a camping trip with their family. The route is confusing, and Rabbit's family is already getting turned around when Rabbit falls out of the open window and is left behind on the side of the road!
Rabbit rolls down a hill, into a stream, and then into a shadowy forest. Alone and lost, Rabbit doesn't know what to do, until a small fox comes exploring. Fox carries Rabbit through the trees to a woodland celebration, and Rabbit realizes that getting lost sometimes means finding new friends!
(Text rights only). Illustrated by Deborah Marcero.
Nikki Loftin lives with her Scottish photographer husband just outside Austin, Texas, surrounded by dogs, chickens, goats, and rambunctious boys. She is the author of the multiple starred-reviewed Nightingale's Nest and The Sinister Sweetness of Splendid Academy, which Publishers Weekly called "mesmerizing" and Kirkus called "irresistible." Her latest novel, Wish Girl, was published on February 24, 2015, and was translated into Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Chinese, and French.
