ICE SHEAR

M. P. Cooley

An exciting debut crime fiction series heralds the arrival of a new complex, intriguing female protagonist.
Officer June Lyons is winding up another uneventful night shift in the quiet town of Hopewell Falls when she discovers the body of a young woman, dramatically impaled on an ice spike at the bottom of the frozen river. June feels much like the town itself—in decline: a former FBI agent forced to move home with her young daughter to live with her retired father after her husband dies of cancer. When the victim is discovered to have strong ties both to Congress and to an outlaw motorcycle gang determined to expand their network, June’s tenuous involvement in the case is only secured when she is deputized by FBI agent Hale Bascom: ex-lover, ex-friend, someone she isn’t sure she can trust after his abandonment of her dying husband. M.P. Cooley was previously a book editor. This is her debut novel. She is currently writing the second novel in the series. She lives in California.

Ice Shear is as chilling as its title, a small-town police story that grows and grows into the bigger themes of power, corruption, and coverup.

June Lyons has just enough grit and verve to roughen her vulnerable edges, keep her fellow cops on their toes, and please fans of suspense with strong, perceptive female leads.
