I HOPE YOU (DIE) LOVE ME

Moon Unit Zappa

From her adventures as an 80s icon (and countless appearances from Dweezil and then-girlfriend Molly Ringwald), to her honest reflections on being born into hippy royalty, the daughter of Frank and Gail Zappa in the shadow of bona fide genius, to present-day Moon and how she's still reckoning with it all.
It was either Moon Unit or Motorhead. Gail Zappa chose the former for their first born, the obvious choice of the options her new husband, hippy legend and needle-moving rock icon Frank Zappa, gave her. And thank the hippy gods she dida more 80s icon than daughter-of-a-rockstar named 'Moon Unit' there was not.

Moon herself, well, she would call herself an accidental celebrity, both blessed and cursed with the unconventional, counter-culture, and rule-less lifestyle most Debbie, Karen, and Susan's during the 60s and 70s would kill for. Avoiding the pitfalls of other famous childrencults, drugs, heads so big they could pose as blimpswas only the half of it. But Moon has stayed largely intact despite it all. Not that there weren't close calls.

I HOPE YOU DIE LOVE ME reads as an off-beat love letter to her father, her family, California, and herself. It's why she didn't want to write it right after Frank's death in 1993. This book is first and foremost about Moon. A clear literary talent, with her father's creativity and her mother's spunk, Moon retraces her steps in a way that's funny, frank, emotional, and unequivocally herself.

"May my book be an entertaining but cautionary tale for the uninitiated and a healing salve for those who need strength, humor, hope and cheerleading to navigate their own suffering, isolation, despair, heartache and daily well being."
