HOW TO SOUND WINE SMART
How to Sound Wine Smart will be a modern, whimsical, one-of-a-kind visual glossary that makes learning how to "speak wine" as entertaining as drinking it is supposed to be.
It will focus not only on the tasting terms and expressions that the pros actually use, but the ones that describe the qualities in wine that can be most elusive and challenging to convey. (Hence this being a "show and tell" and not just a "tell and tell" experience.) Things like acidity and texture and condition and personality. What to say when you stick your nose in that glass and take your first big whiff, or when you recognize a wine's not perfect, and everything in between.
Maryse Chevriere is a writer, certified sommelier, and acclaimed wine humorist. A graduate of NYU's Food Studies program, she served as the founding Drinks editor of national food website, The Daily Meal. Her writing on restaurants and beverages has also been featured in acclaimed digital publications Serious Eats and Chowhound. In 2015 she launched the Instagram account @Freshcutgardenhose, which brings the comical absurdity of wine tasting notes and "somm speak" to life through illustration. The account quickly gained a following among amateur wine enthusiasts and professionals alike, and in 2016, it won her the James Beard Award for Humor.
