THE MOSQUITO

Timothy Winegard

A Human History of Our Deadliest Predator

Winegard takes us on a fascinating and delightful journey through the annals of human history, showing us just how much we owe our existence to the lowly mosquito, and explaining how the mosquito deserves its rightful place alongside the founding fathers of the United States.
Were it not for the mosquito, America, and the rest of the world map, might look very different than they do today. No other animal has transformed human civilization and evolution so profoundly, and no other book has told this epic story from a global perspective before.

Winegard's writing is effervescent. The facts that he shares are surprising and entertaining and the book is full of cocktail party tidbits (for instance, did you know that the mosquito has killed half of all human beings who've ever lived??). At the same time, THE MOSQUITO will be a groundbreaking work of non-fiction that offers a dramatic new perspective on the history of mankind.

Timothy Winegard holds a PhD from the University of Oxford. He served nine years as an officer in the Canadian and British forces. Dr. Winegard teaches history and political science at Colorado Mesa University. He's written four previous books published by academic presses.
