HOME SWEET ANYWHERE

Lynne Martin

How We Sold Our House, Created a New Life, and Saw the World

The inspiring story of two nomadic retirees living abroad internationally with two suitcases, two computers, and the savvy to make a home almost anywhere. After more than two years of on the road in Turkey, France, Italy, Ireland, Great Britain, Morocco, Portugal, California and Mexico, they returned to spend April in Kenmare, on Ireland's west coast, spent three months in Paris, and lived in Berlin, Germany through August 2013.
"In 2011, we sold our charming house in Central California’s wine country, gave away the furniture, and stuffed our art, clothes and small treasures into a 10 x 15 storage unit. We said goodbye to our surprised children and quizzical friends and now we live in rented apartments and houses internationally, putting down new roots one country at a time.
We have no property taxes, roof repairs or home insurance, so all of our spendable income is used to fund our new way of life. We do have small suitcases, an appetite for new experiences, good computers, and the savvy and flexibility to make ourselves at home in almost any situation.
We have lived in Mexico, Argentina. Turkey, France, Italy, England, and are currently in Bray, County Wicklow, Ireland. We visited Marrakech and sailed home for the holidays.
In February we sailed back to Europe and spent March in Portugal. We spent April writing and storm-watching in remote, lovely Kenmare, Ireland. Now we’re in Paris for the whole summer, still writing, but eating and cooking like upscale gypsies! Please sign in for our email and we’ll let you know every time we tell a new part of our story."

Lynne Martin lives home free with her husband, novelist Tim Martin. They are in their early seventies.

Read more...

For anyone who harbors a secret fantasy of leaving everything behind to see the world, Lynne Martin is the perfect tour guide -- she shows how she and her husband made that dream come true! I can't think of two 'senior gypsies' I'd rather follow as they journey to far-flung places than Lynne and Tim Martin. Home Sweet Anywhere is filled with adventure, humor, and heart. I loved this book!

In 2011, Californians Lynne and Tim Martin sold their house, ditched most of their belongings, and narrowed down their essentials into two suitcases. They took off to live internationally without a home base. They have lived in nine countries in the past two-and-a-half years. Lynne’s blog, Home Free Adventures, became popular after her article appeared in The Wall Street Journal last year. Her book, Home Sweet Anywhere, will be published in April 2014 by Sourcebooks, Inc. They are living outside London for the month of September. Read more...
