HANNAH ARENDT: EL MÓN EN JOC

The biggest expert on Hannah Arendt.

It's not easy to domesticate Hannah Arendt's thought, let alone to reduce it to the cliches of contemporary discourse. Her indisputable intellectual independence and unflagging determination to understand led her to go beyond the questions and principles of the philosophical tradition in order to present new forms of reflection and political organisation for the modern world. Following Arendt in her "thought experiments", Fina Birulés chooses two recurring categories in the work of this German-Jewish philosopher: world and natality. Working around these ideas, she speaks of tradition, beginnings, community, distance, freedom, memory, education, creating meaning, understanding and, in particular, responsibility. Under the attentive gaze of Hannah Arendt, this essay reveals that what is really at stake is the world. Fina Birulés (Girona, 1956) is a philosopher and lecturer in Philosophy at the University of Barcelona, as well as being a visiting lecturer at universities in Florence, São Paolo, and Vienna, inter alia. She carries out her research in the Philosophy and Gender Seminar ADHUC, which she co-founded in 1990. She is the author of articles and essays on subjectivity, politics, and memory, feminist theory, and women's philosophical production, as well as translating and introducing works by Arthur Danto, Ludwig Wittgenstein, and Charles Taylor, while giving special attention, to the thought of Hannah Arendt. Notable among her books are Una herencia sin testamento: Hannah Arendt (Herder, 2007), Hannah Arendt: Más allá de la filosofía (Trotta, 2014), and Entreactes, Entorn del pensament, la política i el feminisme (El Trabucaire, 2014).
