GOODNIGHT ALREADY!

Benji Davies Jory John

Meet Bear. He's exhausted. All he wants is to go to sleep. Meet Duck, Bear's persistent next-door neighbor. All he wants is to hang out . . . with Bear.
Jory John occasionally has trouble sleeping due to noisy neighbors, so he knows exactly how Bear feels. Then again, sometimes he drinks too much coffee and just wants to stay up all night and hang out. So he knows exactly how Duck feels. He's coauthor of the bestselling All My Friends Are Dead and a sequel, among other humor books. This is Jory's debut picture book for children, which has been nominated for a 2015 E.B. White Read-Aloud Award. He lives (and sleeps) in the Bay Area.

Author Jory John easily handles the dry humor that has taken over children's literature in recent years. Duck's energetic appeals will have even the littlest pajama-clad readers laughing. John's tale offers plenty for readers of all ages. Kids will laugh ... parents will commiserate. Both young and old will anticipate--and appreciate--the ending's twist. Most kids go through a favorite-book phase; break the boredom with Bear and Duck. From kid-friendly dialogue to sleepy-time-friendly illustrations,Goodnight Already!will be an oft-requested book.

John and Davies bring fresh humor to a familiar scenario, tracing the push and pull between a character desperate to get some shut-eye and one who is far from ready for bed. Both the repartee and the sight gags display excellent timing, making the most of the classic comic tension between a hulking grouch and a diminutive pest. But this is also a physically lovely book. Davies uses nocturnal blues, geometric patterning, and contrasting scale in a way that makes every page pop. The one thing readers will not say about this book is "Enough already!"

Poor Bear! He just wants to sleep but Duck, his pesky and persistent neighbor, is wide awake and wants to play. Children and adults will both delight in John's hysterical picture book that is sure to become a bedtime classic. Davies's brilliant illustrations add to the hilarity of Goodnight Already!

Ridiculously wonderful!
