Miguel lives in Madrid and works in his own studio, where he combines graphic design with illustration. Inventive and interactive, this clever board books asks tots to figure out what animals different collections of shapes combine to form. Two triangles and a circle? They make a fish! The number of shapes incrementally goes up by one, with those spreads asking readers to guess the animal they'll make and a page turn revealing the answer. Neutral backgrounds will keep youngsters focused on the bright, clearly defined shapes, while the created animals gather and comically interact with one another.

[T]hese aren't your ordinary, run-of-the-mill shapes. They include triangles with rounded sides, a wavy line, a gumdrop, and an arch. Turn the book sideways to see the winsome critters stacked atop one another with the goldfish leaping out of its bowl. The next spread finds all the shapes tumbled in a jumble, but oh, wow, the friends one can create with a little imagination now! Prediction, close observation, and ingenuity are all encouraged.
