FOOTNOTES FROM THE WORLD'S GREATEST BOOKSTORES
True Tales and Lost Moments from Book Buyers, Booksellers, and Book Lovers
A beautifully packaged gift book from New Yorker cartoonist Bob Eckstein in which he showcases the world's most beloved bookstores with one-of-a-kind illustrations and charming personal anecdotes from owners, clerks, and customers.
From Madonna and Sean Penn snarkily shopping for Bukowski novels in St Mark's Books in the 1980's, to Patti Smith working behind the counter at The Strand, the anecdotes provide a cheery, inside look into the world of buying, selling, and cherishing books.
Bob Eckstein has been a humor writer for more than twenty years, and is most recognized for his popular weekly columns in Newsday, the "Village Voice", and now, "TimeOut". His cartoons and artwork have also appeared in publications like "The New Yorker", the "New York Times", "Spy" magazine, and "Details". He splits his time between his studios in Manhattan and Pennsylvania.
Garrison Keillor has hosted the comedy/variety radio show A Prairie Home Companion since 1974. His many books include Lake Wobegon Days, Leaving Home, Happy to Be Here, The Book of Guys, Homegrown Democrat, Lake Wobegon Summer 1956, Love Me, Wobegon Boy, Pontoon, Liberty, and Pilgrims. Audio CDs and cassettes of compilations of A Prairie Home Companion and Keillor's readings of his books have sold in the millions. He wrote the script for and starred in the 2006 motion picture A Prairie Home Companion, the final film directed by Robert Altman.
