#FAMOUS
A fresh and funny contemporary romance debut about a modern day love story that begins when a girl takes a picture of her crush and posts it online, only for it to go viral and change their lives forever.
Rachel has a non-existent love life. She may have a crush on Kyle but only in the I’m-secretly-googly-eyes- about-you sort of way. Kyle can make a grease-splattered Burger Barn uniform look dreamy. Aside from that – and his on-again, off-again girlfriend – everything about his life is fairly predictable.
But when Rachel takes a picture of Kyle as a joke and posts it online it winds up going viral. Suddenly Kyle is insta-famous and everyone on the planet knows about Rachel’s crush...including Kyle.
And that’s just the beginning of how their lives spiral out of control. Told in alternating points of view, #famous is a modern day love story about the out-of-control thrill ride of falling for someone in front of everyone.
SPOTLIGHT ON CYBERBULLYING: Beyond the fun concept and the romance, #famous explores the very real issue of cyberbullying in a way that makes Rachel’s story relatable and conversation-worthy.
GIRL & BOY NARRATORS: Reader’s will love seeing sassy Rachel and optimistic Kyle find love in an unconventional way from their alternating points of view just like they did in bestsellers like Eleanor and Park.
BASED ON A TRUE STORY: #famous was inspired by instant web celebrity #alexfromtarget, a real-life normal teenage boy who became very famous, very fast when another teenager tweeted his photo and it went inexplicably viral.
Jilly Gagnon has been living in the Boston area since she graduated from Harvard, but she will always be a Minnesota girl at heart. When she is not writing, she is probably either deep in a video-game rabbit hole, talking to her cats like they understand her, or practicing her violin, which for some inexplicable reason (masochism) she took up recently. Jilly’s short humor, personal essays, and op-eds have appeared in all kinds of places that it’s too tedious to list. She also writes adult comedy books; her Choose Your Own Misery series, co-authored with Mike MacDonald, launched in 2016.
