F-BOMB
Field Notes from a Post-Feminist World
From pop icons to soccer moms, women are not only abandoning feminism in unprecedented numbers, they're leading the charge to send it to its grave. The anti-feminist bomb has exploded, detonated by the unlikeliest suspects.
F-Bomb confronts the myth that women have made it and takes us on a frightening, fascinating journey through the backslide of women's rights and into today's anti-feminist universe. Women are heading anti-feminist PR campaigns and fundraising drives; they're behind more than 70 lawsuits in the US to silence campus rape victims, as well as the push to overturn rapists' expulsions; they engineered Gamergate, the violent, vitriolic anti-women in technology movement; and they're on the frontlines of the increasingly successful fight to end abortion rights.
Investigative journalist Lauren McKeon reports from the frontlines of the new women-versus-women gender wars, introducing us to, among others: Janet Bloomfield, a popular MRA (Men's Rights Activist) who is one of the world's most influential and inflammatory anti-feminists, and whose quiet small-town life clashes with her incendiary online persona; Anita Sarkeesian, a high-profile Gamergate victim who received hundreds of death threats after she demanded gender equality in technology, as well as the women who led the charge against her; and Lia Mills, a prominent and self-proclaimed pro-woman anti-abortion activist who began campaigning and attracting a significant following, with more than 2.7 million YouTube hits when she was only 12.
As a witty and insightful narrative F-Bomb demands we confront a difficult truth: for gender equality to triumph, we first need to understand why so many believe feminism is broken, and confront the harrowing consequences for women's lives today and in the future. As a riveting call to action, F-Bomb adds to the conversations started by Roxane Gay, Caitlin Moran and Sheryl Sandberg.
