EVERYDAY TRAUMA

Tracey Shors

Remapping the Brain's Response to Stress, Anxiety and Painful Memories for a Better Life

From an acclaimed professor of neuroscience and psychology, Everyday Traumas is in the vein of bestselling books on brain plasticity, with a timely focus on the female experience of trauma and PTSD.

Dr. Shors challenges the widespread misconception of what actually constitutes “trauma.” Expanding on the traditional definition of PTSD as a reaction to a single event that must include exposure to death, injury, or violence, Dr. Shors has found that symptoms of trauma and even PTSD can also be caused by the cumulative effects of everyday stressors. This can include an abusive childhood, long-term caregiving, or a painful divorce. Importantly, Dr. Shors has found that men's and women's brains react to these stressors differently, and these differences are the keys to reversing the symptoms of trauma and PTSD. This book will show readers how to expand their definition of trauma and PTSD in order to more accurately resolve the pain and suffering through MAP (mental and physical) training, the author's peer reviewed and highly effective brain wellness program. Dr. Shors will help readers heal old wounds and lead lives with less stress, better memories and more joyous futures.

Tracey Shors, PhD is a distinguished professor and researcher in neuroscience and psychology at Rutgers University, previously at Princeton; a pioneering researcher in stress, trauma, and the female brain; and the creator of MAP Training My BrainTM. Dr. Shors has spent over 30 years studying how stress and trauma affect the female brain, as well as the thoughts and memories it generates. Her research has been published in some of the most prestigious journals, including Nature, Science, Journal of Neuroscience, Royal Academy of Sciences, and Scientific American.
