DREAMS
Dimmi come sogni
Human beings have always been fascinated with dreams and their meaning. Nowadays nobody considers their message as delivered by Gods, nevertheless the feeling still remains that in such mysterious products, which go beyond the control of our mind, something really important and meaningful is hidden. In the vein of Freud’s Interpretation of Dreams, the book aims to offer readers a way of interpreting their own or other people's dreams, using the latest scientific research.
The book wants to achieve: firstly to offer cognitive therapists and other professionals a protocol for interpreting their patients’ dreams. Secondly, to allow the layman to interpret their own dreams by following an effective tested and scientifically-sound method. A Dream Diary is offered at the end of the book to aid interpretation.
The message of the book is that dreams are made by emotional textures, and that it is useful to gain awareness of these emotions we experience while sleeping. The basic assumption and teaching of the book, derived in part by meditation and in part by Western science, is that even if some of these emotions might be negative, acknowledging them is a fundamental step toward a better life.
Professor Bara explains how this can be done, bypassing the cumbersome psychoanalytic approach. The convergence of meditation and neuroscience can prove quite powerful and DREAMS explores their relationship.
Bruno G. Bara, MD, Ph D in Medical Psychology, cognitive psychotherapist, is presently Professor of Psychology at the University of Turin, Italy. He is also the director of the Centre for Cognitive Science at the University of Turin, and of the local School of Cognitive Psychotherapy. He has been visiting professor at the Medical Research Council in Cambridge and at the University of California at Berkeley and at Irvine.
