DRAGON AND CAPTAIN

lucas Turnbloom P.R. Allabach

Dragon is a boy in pajamas and a dragon robe, and Captain is a boy with a three-cornered hat. Now why is Captain moping in Dragon's sandbox? Because he's lost his ship.

Dragon is roaring to help. Armed with a (toy watch) compass, a (paper-towel tube) telescope, and a (hand-drawn) map, Dragon and Captain set off on a great backyard adventure. The hedges are a dark forest, the edge of the patio a craggy cliff, and the birdbath is the entire ocean. But where is Captain's ship?

Thundering thumbtacks! It's been captured by pirates! Can Dragon and Captain find the lost ship before lunch?

Created in comic book style, DRAGON AND CAPTAIN is a graphic novel for the picture book set. Kid-true dialogue and lavish illustrations paint a child's world that flows effortlessly between fantasy and reality, a funny and fun-filled homage to Bill Watterson's Calvin and Hobbes. Any child who has pretended that a cardboard tube is a telescope (and who hasn't?) will slip gleefully into this action-packed escapade.

DRAGON AND CAPTAIN celebrates friendship, adventure, and the power of the imagination. So grab your cardboard telescope! Your next great adventure is right in your own backyard.

P. R. Allabach is a small-business owner who served in the U.S. Army in Afghanistan. DRAGON AND CAPTAIN is his first picture book.

"Between Allabach's pleasing prose and Turnbloom's terrific artwork, the team of Dragon and Captain and their active imaginations come to life in this thoroughly enjoyable role playing romp. Picture books like this one should certainly spark children's interest in inventing their own games of make believe."
