Read details 1.4.11: Ivan Vladislavic & David Goldblatt's TJ & DOUBLE NEGATIVE shortlisted for the 2011 Kraszna-Krausz Book Awards Ivan Vladislavic and David Goldblatt's photography-fiction collaboration, TJ & DOUBLE NEGATIVE, has been shortlisted for the 2011 Kraszna-Krausz Book Awards, in the category Best Photography Book. The winner will be announced at the Sony World Photography Awards on the 27th of April in Odeon Leicester Square, London. DOUBLE NEGATIVE is the textual part of a fascinating project with David Goldblatt's photos. Contrasto in Rome who will be the originating publisher of a ‘hybrid' edition, with two books, separately bound, but sold together in a cardboard slipcase. An excellent and beautiful combination of creative skills, Ivan's text and David's photos of Johannesburg over the years. Ivan's novel has a key character who is a Joburg photographer, but it's not about David Goldblatt – it's a beautiful, haunting novel of a young man coming into political and indeed human awareness in South Africa, a finely crafted book about art, and life, and double-ness, how we record, and remember. Contrasto will publish the ‘hybrid' in English in Fall 2010 and then separately in Italian after that, in late 2011 or after. Umuzi in South Africa will follow the same pattern, taking copies from Contrasto to publish in Fall 2010, and then publishing the novel separately in English in October 2011. No standalone novel will appear before October 2011. TJ: The Various Names of Johannesburg & DOUBLE NEGATIVE – the collector's edition of Ivan's novel slip-cased with a book of photographs by master photographer David Goldblatt – comes out in the sumptuous Contrasto/Umuzi co-edition at the end of this month and we should have some very good SA press to show for Frankfurt. We already know that the book with David Goldblatt's photographs will be featured on the cover of the SA Sunday Times Lifestyle Magazine this weekend, fantastic prominence. ee more on the duo-edition here: http://www.flipkart.com/tj-various-names-johannesburg-ivan-book-8869652181
