DISTINTAS FORMAS DE MIRAR EL AGUA
A family reunites to scatter the ashes of their eldest member, Domingo, over the northern wetlands where he was born. On their journey there they start to review their family history as each one of the sixteen relatives sees it; from the grandmother to the youngest granddaughter, the memories span the grandparent's childhood, building a life around the farm's land until they were forced to abandon it after the soil is waterlogged as a consequence of a dam being built where they used to plant their crops. Intimate stories intermingle with open family conflicts and the torn feelings of the youngest generation facing an uncertain future. The surface of the water becomes the mirror in which the kaleidoscopic voices of the family are reflected.
This is a novel about exile, about the passage of time and memory, our connection to nature and place and the yearning for and the loss therof.
