DEADLY LULLABY

Robert McClure

Life is difficult for Leo, a rising detective on the L.A. Police force. Everyone in the department knows that his father has just been released from prison, after serving years for a mob murder. Father and son have been estranged ever since the murder of his mother and her lover, for which Leo has always suspected Babe. But now, Leo needs a favor from his father--and his life depends on it. He has a large gambling debt to a mobster who is not prepared to wait. Babe will solve his problem in a startling way, and they'll both be caught up in a chain of violent events that will nearly cost them their lives, but finally bring them closer together.

DEADLY LULLABY is the outgrowth of Robert McClure's memorable short story that originally appeared online and in print in BEST AMERICAN MYSTERY STORIES. The story was optioned by Sony Pictures and has recently been re-optioned by them for five times the original payment and a substantial bonus due on publication of this novel.

France: Calmann-Lévy (2 books);

Robert McClure is the real deal, an author who produces pulp fiction the way Chandler and Hammett did—with depth and heart. - Otto Penzler

DEADLY LULLABY is, at heart, a father-son story, but one in which the father is a ruthless gangster and the son a cynical cop. I loved both of these flawed characters. Robert McClure has written a rousing debut, elevated by pitch-perfect dialogue and a whiplash pace. - Peter Swanson

DEADLY LULLABY deserves the highest praise I can give—and way more. It is absolutely elegant too compelling to put down. - Roger Hobbs
