COMING OUT STRAIGHT
How I Blew Being Gay and Found the Perfect Wife
A candid, hilarious, heart-wrenching coming-out memoir—told in reverse. With stunning twists and turns and the rarest level of clarity, Sean chronicles the ten years he spent living as a gay man, up until the unexpected realization that he was straight.
Sean chronicles his addiction to strange situations with honesty and insight: from a not-so-great blowjob behind the founder of the Salvation Army’s tombstone to an unsatisfactory liaison on a bus ride in Mexico to join the Zapatista Uprising to, finally, meeting the woman he would marry and have a child with. Sean’s decade of fumbling in the dark with gay men makes for bittersweet, often hilarious story telling.
According to a recent study, half of all men have fantasized about having sex with another man. COMING OUT STRAIGHT explores this most secretive depth of how men really feel about gay. While Sean’s narrative appears unique, more likely he is just the first to tell this story publicly.
This is not the memoir of an ex-gay; it’s a proud, gay-positive story of a man’s arduous journey to authenticity.
Sean Sakamoto has studied creative writing at San Francisco State. He is a writer and producer (Star Trek: Secrets of the Universe; History Channel) and has written a column for Mainichi Weekly, a bilingual news magazine published by Japan’s oldest newspaper.
He lives on the Lower East Side with his wife of fifteen years and their eleven year-old son.
