An ethnically Chinese woman in a male dominated field, Joanna Chiu has spent more than a decade reporting on the ground from Beijing and Hong Kong for top news agencies such as the Economist, Associated Press, Agence France, Deutsche Presse-Agentur, and South China Morning Post, and her work has appeared in the Guardian, Atlantic, NPR, Foreign Policy, Newsweek, Al Jazeera and more. Currently, she is a senior journalist for the Toronto Star, Canada's largest newspaper, and has previously served as bureau chief of the Star Vancouver.
