Syria – a country in civil war. The uprisings of the Arab Spring have shown the world a cruel and corrupt dictatorship while simultaneously revealing the nation´s inability to appoint a new government. The situation is getting worse by the day – violent repression is omnipresent, a tense, poisoned atmosphere dominates daily life.
In the midst of this political upheaval, Wissam, a young woman from Mexico with Syrian roots travels to Damascus where she is confronted with a completely alien culture. Gradually Wissam gets to know her late mother's family with all it´s secrets and intrigues and she eventually falls in love with Jehad, a young man who shows her the almost forgotten wonders of of Syrian culture. But Jehad turns out to be a
government informant, a torturer and executioner. Wissam is forced to make a decision. How can she go on trusting and loving someone who has his own brother´s blood on his hands? Is it possible to love in the face of evil?
