BORING GIRLS

Sara Taylor

Rachel loves metal music. It's a scene dominated by men, but she relates to its aggressive overtones and through it, she's finally able to make friends she can relate to — including another teenage outcast named Fern. They start their own female-fronted metal band, Colostomy Hag, but after the two are abused by a band they idolize, they become driven by the desire for revenge against their former heroes. Fueled by their deepening madness and confronted with violent, frightening situations as their own band finds success in the world of metal, the girls embark on an exciting — but disturbing — journey through the dark side of the music industry. Boring Girls is a story about being in a struggling band, about sexism, and, most importantly, about what happens when revenge turns murderous.

Sara Taylor sings and writes songs for the Billboard-charting band The Birthday Massacre.

One of the spring's most intriguing debut novels, about a pair of female metalheads, begins thusly: ‘It seems like everyone I talk to wants to know two things. One is whether I'm a serial killer or a mass murderer.

This one is for metal fans, who typically have strong stomachs (they eat lizards, don't they?).

A gripping psychological portrait and riveting tale of female friendship and the power of music.
