ARCHETYPE

M.D. Waters

ARCHETYPE is set in a futuristic world where women have become a rare commodity, a world where one woman, Emma, must fight for her freedom while being held captive by the love of two men one her husband and the other her worst enemy. The only problem is she can't remember which man is which. A cross between BEFORE I GO TO SLEEP by S.J. Watson and TOTAL RECALL by Piers Anthony that channels Margaret Atwood's THE HANDMAID'S TALE, ARCHETYPE combines a stellar narrative voice with twists and turns, thrilling action, covert warfare, and a breathtaking love story. When Emma wakes from a terrible accident, she remembers nothing of her past and must rely on her highly successful husband, Declan, to tell her what happened, who she is, who he is. But her nightmares contradict everything he says, showing her a world she can't believe possible: war, growing up in a camp where girls are trained to be wives, and worse, floating in a tank of water she can't escape. Determined not to let these nightmares affect her future, Emma lets Declan mold her into a happily married woman, and she even begins to fall in love with him. But the lines between reality and dreams blur when she finds herself accused of being a traitor to a resistance she knows nothing about outside of her nightmares. Worse, she is drawn to another man, a man from her dreams, in a way that should be reserved for her husband alone. As Emma struggles to figure out who she really is, not only must she choose a side in an unknown war, she must also decide between the two men she loves. ARCHETYPE is a story you can't stop reading until the mind-bending ending...and then you just want more. Information regarding the sequel, PROTOTYPE (due to release in Summer 2014), is also available. ARCHETYPE is M.D. Waters's first novel, but certainly not her last!

“An original and compelling thriller that takes a look at a possible and terrifying future. Comparisons to Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale and S.J. Watson's Before I Go To Sleep are justified. Readers looking for a great thriller with a strong female protagonist mixed with a hint of science fiction should pick this up immediately.”

"This is an NA/adult dystopian novel with biomedical science. Emma wakes up from an "accident" with her loving husband, Declan, telling her she'll be OK. She's not sure what's happening. By day she's seeing doctors, learning and relearning the simplest things, while at night she is plagued with nightmares and a girl talking to her in her head warning her of what to say and what not to say." “Archetype is the literary equivalent of a big-screen blockbuster with its beautiful but deadly heroine, tragic love triangle and grim futuristic setting. The closest thing in print may be Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale, but Emma is Offred with mixed martial arts training...Archetype finishes with a cliffhanger made even more tantalizing by Dutton's promise to publish the sequel, Protoype...The prospect has me more excited than the next Hunger Games movie.
