ANNEX
ANNEX is an astonishing debut novel from an up-and-coming speculative fiction writer, Rich Larson. In ANNEX, Larson turns the alien invasion novel inside out and crafts a gritty but all too real nightmare, starring one of the most striking fictional waifs since Paolo Bacigalupi's Ship Breaker. This dystopian re-imagining of The Lord of the Flies combines the action of Independence Day with literary storytelling will appeal to readers of character-driven crossover fiction.
The pods arrive, bringing Othermothers with them, and everything changes. Families are torn apart, children abducted, adults turned into zombie-like wasters, but a small group of kids manages to survive. Despite all the chaos and destruction around her, Violet hasn't been able to stop smiling. At last, she's able to look in the mirror and recognize who she was always meant to be. Gone are the disapproving taunts of her drunk father and the bullying from other boys. With an unlimited supply of hormones and a new family in The Lost Boys, she has everything she has ever wanted. Violet and the Lost Boys can be whoever they want to be, do whatever they want to do, and create the society they always dreamed of. But, they will soon learn that this freedom comes at a cost.
Larson was born in West Africa, has studied in Rhode Island and worked in Spain.
