After the climactic face-off of book 2, Bailey must orchestrate a death-defying escape to flee the Dominae forces. He and his friends retreat to the Lowlands using an underground tunnel with a colony of bats to guide them, only to find Bailey's home under attack--when he saves the day, it serves only to amp up the Dominae rage.

Then Bailey and his friends travel to the outlying territories of Aldemere to rally an army in the rightful king's name. On the way they must journey to the deepest corners of the desert, evading ruthless bandits and poisonous scorpions, facing terrifying sand storms, and tricking blood-thirsty warlords into destroying one another.

It's a race against the clock as a falcon spots Viviana's forces marching toward the towering Velyn peaks, where the ultimate battle will ensue. Bailey knows she has developed a weapon more terrifying than the last. In the final war, there will be blood on the snow—both animal and human--and the winner will take all.
